Jak had recently attended an event run by Sainsburys where he got the chance to experience And participate in a session of Blind Football coached by Gary Knight.
Read about how the event went here.
On the day all of the children got he chance to win a signed shirt by David Beckham by participating in a penalty shoot out but this was no ordinary shoot out, NO they were blind folded.
It started off with them near to the goal and as the competition got on Gary had to make it a bit harder for the children so the distance changed and he also got them spinning around on the spot ( he did help out by standing in the goal and shouting ‘over here’ to them so they could distinguish the direction of the goal.
All of the children tried really hard, Jak was determined to win and tuned in on what he could hear rather what he could see, it was nail biting stuff and at times I couldn’t even watch. Once it got down to two children, Jak and another boy I gave up watching and just walked away (shows how much faith in him I had eh! ) Jak only went and won! He was shaking and told me his heart was beating really fast but said he focused on why he wanted and took deep breaths.
Jak has been waiting patiently for the past month for his prize to arrive and eventually the day arrived when the courier knocked on the door with that special huge parcel for Jak.
It was a surprise for him went he got in from school and couldn’t wait to open it up. The shirt had been stretched and framed, all ready to display it proudly on his bedroom wall.
Thank you to Sainsburys and to Mumsnet for inviting us along and a special thank you to Gary Knight for being a fabulous coach 🙂
